Nordic Webinar Series on Consent: Is it illegal to have sex?

ELSA Denmark, ELSA Finland, ELSA Iceland, ELSA Norway & ELSA Sweden are delighted to invite you all to the first session of the Nordic Webinar Series on Consent.
During the spring of 2021, the Nordic groups of ELSA will arrange a three-part Webinar Series on different types of consent from a legal perspective.
This is the first event in the Series and will focus on sexual consent.
Within the last couple of years, there has been an ongoing debate on the topic of sexual consent and rape laws based on consent. The Nordic Countries are generally ranked as some of the most gender-equal countries and countries like Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden have all passed consent-based rape laws, whilst both Norway and Finland have discussions concerning the implementation of consent-based rape law. Whether a consent-based rape law has already been passed or not, many of the arguments in the public debate remain the same. Will this lead to more sentences? What is consent? and when is it illegal to have sex?
With participation from some of the leading experts from the Nordic countries, we will try to answer questions related to sexual consent, consent-based rape laws, the “grey-zones” of sex, and the international legal obligations related to sex.
